Choosing your dress
Sizes, styles, occasions and what happens if your favourite is unavailable.
What sizes do you carry?
Our collection includes a broad range of sizes, from petite to plus-size. Exact availability changes as the collection grows and dresses are reserved.
We also carry selected bodysuits and jumpsuits as elegant alternatives to traditional dresses.
Add the styles you like to your Fitting List and include your usual size. We will prepare suitable options for your appointment.
What types of dresses do you offer?
Our collection includes:
- Mini dresses for cocktail parties, birthdays and elegant evenings.
- Knee-length and midi dresses for semi-formal occasions.
- Floor-length gowns for matric balls, galas, weddings and black-tie events.
- Selected wedding-style gowns, including elegant non-traditional colours.
- Sparkly, plain, flowing and fitted designs.
Shoes, handbags, shawls, scarves, gloves and other accessories may also be available.
What events are the dresses suitable for?
- Matric farewell balls
- Grade 7 farewell dances
- University residence and house dances
- Weddings and bridal parties
- Galas and charity evenings
- Black-tie events
- Year-end functions
- Special evenings requiring formal or elegant clothing
We specialise in elegant formalwear rather than themed costumes or character outfits.
Can I wear one of your dresses to a wedding?
Yes. Many styles are suitable for wedding guests, bridesmaids, mothers of the bride or groom, and brides looking for an elegant non-traditional option.
During your fitting, we can help you find styles suitable for your role, the dress code and the type of wedding.
What if the dress I want is already reserved?
We will let you know if a particular dress has already been booked for your event date and prepare alternative options.
Trying several styles often leads clients to discover a dress they love even more than the one they originally selected online.
Fittings and booking
How the process works and why every rental includes a fitting.
How does the dress-hire process work?
- Browse the online collection.
- Add the dresses you like to your Fitting List.
- Submit your contact details and event information.
- Choose an available fitting appointment.
- Try your selected dresses and other suitable options.
- Choose your dress and secure it for your event date.
This allows you to see how each style looks and feels in real life before confirming the rental.
Do I have to attend a fitting?
Yes. We require a fitting before confirming a rental because dresses can look and feel very different when worn.
At your fitting, you can:
- Try several styles and sizes.
- See the colours, fabrics and details in person.
- Check comfort, length and fit.
- Ask for honest styling suggestions.
Our aim is to help you leave with confidence rather than risk disappointment from hiring unseen.
How do I book my fitting?
Begin by adding your preferred dresses to the online Fitting List. Once you submit the list, you will be directed to the booking calendar to select an available date and time.
The calendar prevents appointments from being double-booked, so the selected time is reserved for you.
Can I book a last-minute fitting?
We recommend booking early, particularly during matric farewell season and the busy year-end function period.
For urgent events, contact us and we will do our best to accommodate you if an appointment and suitable dress are available.
Can the dress be altered?
Permanent alterations are not allowed because each dress must remain available for future clients.
Temporary adjustments such as careful pinning or tucking may be used where appropriate. We can also advise on undergarments, shoes and accessories that improve the overall fit.
Prices and payments
Rental charges, deposits and accepted payment methods.
How much does it cost to hire a dress?
Current dress-rental prices range from R200 to R800, depending on the design and type of dress.
Accessories are also available at affordable rates. The exact price will be confirmed before you reserve your selection.
Is a deposit required?
Yes. A refundable deposit is required for every rental. The amount depends on the dress you select.
When the dress is returned on time and in the same condition in which it was collected, the deposit is refunded in full.
The deposit amount and conditions will be explained clearly before you confirm the rental.
Which payment methods do you accept?
We accept cash or instant EFT only.
The rental charge and refundable deposit must be paid in full before the dress is collected.
Is there a fee for the fitting appointment?
Yes. There is a R150 fitting fee. This fee is non-refundable because your appointment time is reserved and your selected dresses are prepared before you arrive.
When you book a dress through Charming Inspirations, the R150 is deducted from your dress-rental amount.
Payment can be made by cash or instant EFT only.
Why hire a dress instead of buying one?
Dress hire allows you to wear something beautiful for an important occasion without paying the full purchase price for an outfit you may only wear once.
It also gives well-made garments the opportunity to be worn and enjoyed repeatedly, making it a more thoughtful and sustainable choice.
Collection and return
Rental length, care, damage and returning your dress.
How long can I keep the dress?
The standard rental period is three days:
- Collect the dress the day before your event.
- Wear it for your occasion.
- Return it the following day.
Longer rentals may be possible for destination weddings or travel. Please discuss this when booking because an additional fee may apply.
What happens if the dress is damaged?
Minor wear, such as a loose thread or missing bead, is generally expected and covered by the rental charge.
Significant stains, tears, burns or other damage may result in repair costs being deducted from the deposit. If the dress cannot reasonably be repaired, the deposit may be used toward replacement.
How do I return the dress?
Return the dress to our Somerset West location on the agreed date, normally the day after your event.
Please do not wash, dry-clean or attempt to remove stains at home. Professional cleaning is handled by Charming Inspirations.
